Early morning bird chirp chirps away
What was left from worms eaten day by day..
Life's brutal cycle of predator and prey,
This early morning bird need not turn gray.

As the soon setting moon fades by the bay,
Worm is brought to land and quickly led astray..
Looking up to see a beak of beautiful display…
Early morning bird dives down
and whisks worm away.

The beak bears worm but never boasts brazen,
Worm be not a worm but food by starven days end
The pinky elastic flesh they’ll have no say in,
Eats them away like grass for cattle to graze in.

Why would you waste a wee whittled worm,
When confined by a beak they morbidly squirm;
Inching ever closer to a life they shant discern,
A life of forest soil to complete what can’t return.

Morning bird hangs their head in shame
When worm has finally gone away,
A statue is left made out of clay
All for what? A mere entrée?

“never boasts brazen” – love it!! (he’d drop his worm anyway if he did!) Linda 🙂
